Sword Canes became popular during the 18th and 19th centuries. It was less socially acceptable to openly carry a sword in public, so the stick sword emerged. This was a cane, umbrella or stick with an edged blade inside. These function as a typical walking cane or working umbrella with a sharpened, edged blade that could be easily and quickly removed from the shaft.

Night Watchman Hook Sword Canes are 37 5/8th inches in all. These sword canes feature a sharpened 25 inch 1060 high carbon steel blade. The Night Watchman Hook Sword Canes have a black, hard-coated aluminum shaft. The extremely curved handle features a point and is made of molded fiber-filled nylon. They also have a rubber cane shaft toe to assist with grip.
